Belgian Malinois Training | Ren | Whittier, CA

Ren, a Belgian Malinois from Whittier, CA went through the Balanced Canine Training SoCal Board and Train Program. Ren was trained by Amanda Lascari in La Habra, CA.

Pupdates:

Ren, a two year old Belgian Malinois, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. She comes to us knowing some commands but not always following them, lack of recall, leash pulling, chewing on things she’s not suppose to, and leash reactivity. Over the two weeks Ren will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

Ren is settling in at my home. She got to meet the rest of the pack. She did pretty well meeting everyone. She didn’t want to play but was able to be around them and be social.

Today Ren and I went to the park to work on her commands. I introduced and conditioned her to the ecollar. We did a little overview of all her commands to see what she knows. She did pretty well listening to her commands. She is not too bad with her heel, but tends to get distracted with her surroundings and wants to put her nose to the ground and sniff. Not sure if Ren knows the down command already, there was a little bit of a struggle with this one. After some repetition she started to get the hang of it. We met with other off leash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Ren could work around other dog distractions. She didn’t show any interest in them or have any reactivity. Ren did well for her first day of training. Above is an ecollar tutorial. I didn't get to send you home with one, but please review this video as many times as you need so you can become better understand the training collar.

Today Ren and I went to the park to work on her commands. We practiced more on her sit, down, place, and heel commands. She did much better with down today. We need some more work on her duration. Ren does well with holding a command when standing next to her, but as I try to move and distance myself she wants to get up to come close to me. We will continue to practice and improve.

Today Ren and I went to Lowe’s to start working on her obedience around distractions. She did pretty well. She was a little distracted by the loud noises, but was still able to stay focused and follow through with her commands. Ren is getting better with her duration, being able to hold her sit and down longer.

Today Ren and I went to a local shopping center to work on commands. We practiced all her commands and worked on her duration. She is getting better at holding her sit and down commands as I move around and distance myself away from her. Ren did very well today! We need to tighten up a few of her commands, then we can start working off leash.

Today Ren and I went to the shopping outlets to work on her obedience. She did very well. She was focused and obedient. We were able to work semi-off leash! I let her drag the leash around while we trained. Ren had a few admirers that stopped to watch her work. They gave her compliments on how well mannered she is. They asked if they could pet her. Ren sat nicley and enjoyed the pets and attention.

Today Ren and I went to the park to work on her obedience. We practiced all her commands semi-off leash. We worked on her distance and duration. Ren was focused and obedient. The only distraction we had were two little dogs that were barking at her. She became a little fixated on them, but when I told her ‘off’ she stopped looking at them and went back to focusing on her commands. We need to tighten up a few of her commands and then she will be ready to work completely off leash. Ren decided to come out of her shell today. She actually initiated play with the other dogs.

Today Ren and I went to an outdoor shopping center to work on her obedience around distractions. We practiced completely off leash today. Ren did pretty well with following her commands. She was a little nervous with the new surroundings, so I didn’t try to distance myself from her. We will continue to practice around more distractions to build her confidence, but not bad for her first time off leash.

Today Ren and I went to Los Cerritos mall to work on out of the rain and work on her obedience around distractions. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Ren had other dogs to work around. Ren was a bit stubborn today, not wanting to listen to her commands. It was a little busy at the mall, which made it hard for Ren to focus. After some repetition she was able to settle down and work semi off leash. Ren had quite a few admirers that complimented her on obedience.

Today Ren and I trained at home. We practiced all her commands and worked on her distance and duration. We worked on her food manners, teaching Ren to wait patiently until given permission to eat. Just because the food is on the floor doesn’t mean it belongs to her or that she can eat it. We also worked on her door manners, teaching Ren not to pass thresholds until given permission.
