Cali, a Great Dane, from Rancho Palos Verdes, CA went through the Balanced Canine Training SoCal 2 Week Board & Train dog training program. Cali was trained by dog trainer Haley Giwoff in Costa Mesa, CA

Meet Miss Cali! She is an eleven month old Great Dane from Rancho Palos Verdes. She is a sweet and loving girl but has learned to use her size and her teeth to get her way with her family! She is very protective of them and often gets barky and reactive with other people and animals she deems a threat. She is a smart happy girl who I can't wait to get to train! Stay tuned for her 14 day transformation!

Cali is all settled in to the temporary new digs! We did her first lesson right when we got home to get her nice and tuckered out before putting her back in the kennel and she did fantastic! She is already learning the basics to her Recall command and is adjusting to the E-Collar system extraordinarily well. She isn't a huge fan of getting into the kennel but is such a happy camper once she is in there. I am so excited to see how much she is going to grow in the next two weeks!

Miss Cali wasn't super hungry for dinner, it's perfectly normal for high anxiety pups to skip their first meal or two. I am sure she will work up her appetite tomorrow!

Miss Cali slept through the night like a baby! One that snores loud enough to shake the house but a baby nonetheless! She is already getting better about getting in and out of the kennel is happily exploring the backyard and becoming quite the cuddle bug! We did a few sessions in the backyard working on her confidence level, recall, sit, and introduction to her Heel command. She still hasn't worked up an appetite which again is really normal! We only start to really worry when we get close to 3 days without eating and I have a ton of tricks up my sleeve to make that happen. If she still isn't interested in her breakfast I will start to employ them!

Cali's Heel is coming along!! She is doing really well and was learning how to Heel next to me without any leash tension and was dragging it behind her the whole lesson! She is also eating well now with no extra tricks needed! She is adjusting really well to the kennel as well often going into it automatically after lessons/playtime. As of today she has been introduced to all of her commands and her tail is starting to come up higher and higher every lesson (common indicator of confidence). I did read the picture of the scale wrong yesterday! She was at 104 not 109.

Momma Cali did her walk around the neighborhood dragging her leash today! She is coming along! Her big wins today were learning to cope with construction noises, loud cars, and several sets of strangers/dogs. She didn't do perfect, she needed a lot of reminders about what she was supposed to be doing, but she didn't need the leash and she didn't bark at all! We had a gentleman with a stroller, a little pup, and a big pup walk 10 feet from us with the baby girl in a Sit disengaging to make eye contact with me on command!

Miss Cali had a big day! We had two good sessions working on a little bit of everything and conquered some of her fear of strangers, other dogs, and sirens at the library park. She is really starting to come out of her shell and looking sharp!

Pupdate 10/16/2020

Cali spent some time at the skate park today! She was pretty jumpy for the first bit, all the noises and movement were a lot of stimulation for her! However with some consistency and patience she quickly fell back into all of the obedience we have been practicing and didn't even need her leash for most of it!

Cali has come so far in her first week! She is looking better and better everyday! Starting tomorrow she is going to start helping me film some videos for you all to explain her commands and everything she is learning!

Pupdate 10/18/2020

Cali made a video teaching you guys how to practice her Recall command with her! She is coming along so great and is such a sweet girl, I can't believe how much she has learned in just 7 days!

Pupdate 10/19/2020

Cali is looking really good! We worked on her Heel a lot today working away from needing the leash direction. She officially has a good grasp of all of her commands and the next days are going to be getting her to do them every which way in a bunch of different places!

Pupdate 10/20/2020

Cali worked around several reactive and non-reactive pups today! She did so well! There was a bit of a dip in how sharp she was with the high level distraction. At first the Rottweiler in the background (who is with us for being extremely reactive) was a big distraction along with the several other pups. The two of them could sense each other's insecure energy and we're a bit on edge but as we worked for longer and longer they both ended up at ease and doing all of their commands really well!

Pupdate 10/21/2020

Cali is doing so well! We have been working with several reactive pups to work her through her reactivity and I am so proud of how far she has come! She is going to be getting ready to do her final video and head home pretty soon here! She has a new favorite toy in the backyard as of this morning, a little red spiky bone she likes to roll around and throw all about!

Cali is such a sweet girl! We worked on a bit of everything and are getting ready to start filming her final video and some more tutorials. She has grown so much in the past week and a half. She is so much calmer in public hardly reacting to anything at all and being happy to do all her commands.

Pupdate 10/23/2020

Cali helped me make you guys a video about all her stationary/duration commands! She is looking so sharp these days! This entire video there was a little pup doing everything she could to try and get Cali to come say hi and Cali took it like a champ! We also did a Heel instructiontional with some off leash distance recalls that will get posted before noon today and will be posting a sneak peak of her final video in the evening so please do check back in before pick up! I am so excited to get to show off all her skills to you all in person.

Here is Cali teaching her Heel and showing off her Recall! Check back later or on your way tomorrow for a sneak peak of her final video too!

Sneak Peak of Cali's final video! She has learned so much and is all packed up and ready to go home tomorrow! She is such a good girl and is going to be missed absolute tons, but I know she is going to be over the moon to go home!
