Doberman Pinscher Training | Snoop | Long Beach, CA

Snoop, a Doberman Pinscher from Long Beach, CA went through the Balanced Canine Training SoCal Board and Train Program. Snoop was trained by Amanda Lascari in La Habra Heights, CA.

Pupdates:

Snoop, a one year old Doberman Pinscher, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Snoop comes to us knowing some commands but not always following them, jumping to greet, nipping, being easily distracted, rough playing, and excessively barking or whining. Snoop has had two incidents where he has bitten the owner and a relative. Over the two weeks Snoop will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Snoop is settling in well at my home. He got to meet a few dogs from my pack. He is very playful, but can be a bit rough. He likes to push with his paws and be very mouthy. He tries showing dominance, placing his head over the other dogs. Snoop has been very whiny in his kennel. Not sure if it's some separation anxiety or he just doesn't like the kennel. Once he get adjusted to his new surroundings and we start training, Snoop will be more relaxed and comfortable when it's time to rest in his kennel.

Today Snoop and I went to the park to when on his commands. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands: Sit, Down, Place, and Heel. He did very well and caught on to the place command quickly. Heel is still a work in progress but he is walking nicely at my side now. Snoop is easily distracted by his surroundings. He’s more interested in what is going on around us rather than paying attention to me, unless food is involved. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs so he could work around dog distractions. Snoop was interested in them but still able to follow commands. Snoop showed some aggression today with one of my dogs. I’m not sure why because he was playful towards the same dog yesterday. I think it could be that the puppy is an intact male. So, I’m going to keep them separated and have snoop only socialize with my females only. I split up his meal into two servings. I knew he would build up an appetite from training, so I gave Snoop half of his meal in the morning and the rest in the evening.

Today Snoop and I went to the park to when on his commands. We practiced more of the Sit, Down, Place, and Heel commands. He did pretty well. We need more work on his focus, still distracted with his surroundings. Snoop did a good job holding his commands as I walked around. He got excited when he saw the three chihuahuas approaching. Snoop wanted to go up and say hi, but he had to keep working and focus on his training.

Today Snoop and I went to a local shopping center to work on his commands. We practiced more on his sit, down, place, and heel commands. He is doing a good job with his duration, holding his commands. We started working on his recall. For the most part he did pretty well. A few times Snoop tried to be stubborn and try to not listen, but I made sure that he followed through with the commands.

Today Snoop and I went to Lowe’s to work on his obedience around distractions. When we first arrived he was very distracted by all the noise and commotion. As we walked around and trained Snoop was able to settle down and focus on his commands. He did well around the people distractions. Snoop received a few compliments on how handsome and well mannered he is. Today he got to make a new friend, Coconut the poodle puppy. He is finally happy that someone wants to play with him. Snoop can be pushy and overbearing at times, making the other dogs not want to play with him. Now he has a friend that is as energetic and playful as him.

Today Snoop and I went to the outdoor mall to work on his obedience around distractions. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs so Snoop could work around more dog distractions. He was a little overwhelmed and distracted with the new surroundings. As we walked around and did repetitions of his commands, Snoop was able to settle down and focus. He did well with all the people distractions. Our main struggle was with other dogs. I know he wanted to go up and say hi, but they would cause him to break focus and break commands. We continued to work through the dog distractions until Snoop became uninterested and went back to focusing on his commands.

Today Snoop and I went to an outdoor mall to work on his obedience around distractions. They had a children’s event going on, so there were lots of distractions to work around. He did great around all the children, except for getting distracted by them. We tried doing some semi-off leash work, but he isn’t quite ready yet. We need to tighten up some of his commands and have him keep his attention on me before we can start trying to do off leash obedience. We will continue to practice and improve.

Today Snoop and I went to the park to work on his commands. We practiced all his commands and worked on his duration. He did much better with lower distractions. Snoop was able to focus more on me and his commands and worry less about his surroundings. We were able to train semi-off leash. We are still working on tightening up his commands, but they looked much better today.

Today Snoop and I went to the mall to work on his commands. He was a little distracted with the new surroundings, but still able to focus and follow commands. Snoop got a little sassy and stubborn when he didn’t want to listen. He would try to be mouthy when I would give him a command, but I made sure that he followed through with each command. After some repetition he stopped and started following my commands the first time I asked.

Today Snoop and I went to the outdoor shopping mall to work on his commands around distractions. He did pretty well. We were able to work completely off leash. The only struggle we had was with seeing other dogs. He would follow and stay in his commands, but would fixate on the dogs rather than pay attention to me. Snoop would be a little pushy and stubborn when he didn’t feel like listening. He would try to bark or be mouthy with me. We worked through the stubbornness and made sure he followed through with all the commands I asked of him.

Today Snoop and I spent the day at the beach. When we first arrived he was overstimulated and distracted with everything going on around us. It took us about 30minutes of walking around to get him to settle down and focus. He did fine with the bikes and rollerbladers, but not a fan of skateboards. He barked at a few skateboarders that rolled by us, but once corrected him and told him ‘off’ Snoop stopped focusing on them.  Snoop had many admirers that watch him train and received many compliments. He sat nicely and patiently as people approached to pet him.

Today Snoop and I did some light training at home. He enjoyed going on a long run. I gave him a bath so he could be nice and clean when he sees you. Snoop spent the rest of the day playing and socializing with all his friends before he goes home. Snoop has done a great job with his training! He can’t wait to go home and show you everything he has learned!
