Jet, a six month old Bernedoodle, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our One Week Board and Train program. Jet is a very energetic puppy who comes to us with little knowledge of commands, pulling on the leash while walking, jumping to greet, dog reactivity, being mouthy, and eating things he’s not supposed to. Over the week Jet will be working on his on leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Jet is settling in well at my home. He got to meet my pack. He was a little timid with meeting all the dogs at once, but warmed up quickly to them. Jet is having a blast running around and playing with his friends. I am going to let him spend rest of the day getting adjusted to his new surroundings. Tomorrow we will begin his training. Above is a tutorial video for the Ecollar. I didn’t get to send you home with one, but please watch this video as many times as you need to become familiar with the training collar.

Today Jet and I stayed at home to train. I introduced and conditioned him to the Ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Down, and Place. Place is a command where Jet must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for confidence building, building distance and duration, as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. He did very well and caught on to his new command quickly. Down is still a work in progress. Jet will lie down if a treat is involved, but doesn’t fully understand with just a verbal cue. We will continue to practice and progress. Jet did an awesome job on his first day of training!

Today Jet and I went to the park to work on his commands. We practiced more of his Sit, Down, and Place commands. We also started working on Heel. Heel is a structured walk where Jet must walk at my side. He is not allowed to lead ahead, lag behind, or walk too far away from me. He is not allowed to put his nose to the ground or fixate on other distractions. Jet’s job is to walk nicely next to me and focus on where I am going. It is still a work in progress, but he is walking much better.
