Maximus, the four and a half month old Cane Corso, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. He comes to us with some typical puppy behavior: jumping, play biting, little knowledge of commands, not walking properly on leash, being easily distracted. His owners are having trouble with Maximus being timid out in public, barking at and being scared of new people, and having some separation anxiety. Over the two weeks Maximus will be working on his off Leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Maximus is settling in well at my home. He was a bit shy at first when he first arrived. He got to meet the rest of my pack. He warmed up to them quickly and is having a blast running around and playing with them.

Today Maximus and stayed home for training. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit and Place. Place is a command where Maximus must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for confidence building, as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. It is still a work in progress, but he understands what the command means. We definitely need to work on his focus. Maximus is very easily distracted with his surroundings, which makes it hard for him to hold his commands. He is a smart boy, but can be stubborn when he doesn’t want to do something. It was a great first day of training!

Today Maximus and i went to the park to work on his commands. We practiced more of his Sit and Place. We worked on a new command, Heel. Heel is a structured walk where Maximus must walk at my side. It is still a work in progress, but he is walking much better now, staying closer to my side. I brought him with me to a family gathering for Mother’s Day. He was a little shy at first, but he didn’t growl, bark, or try to run and hide. He warmed up to everyone and allowed them to pet and give him affection.

Today Maximus and i went to the park to work on his commands. He did a great job. He was focused and obedient. We worked on his down command. Not sure if already knows the command, but he started to do the command on his own quickly. Potty training is going OK. Maximus is starting to go potty on the grass, but when it comes to #2, he wants to go on the driveway. We will keep practicing.

Today Maximus and i went to a local shopping area to work on his obedience around distractions. There wasn't too much foot traffic, but there was a lot of vehicle distractions. Maximus was a little nervous and distracted at first, but as we worked on his commands he was able to relax and focus. We worked on his distance and duration. He did a very good job today!

Today Maximus and i went to the beach to work on his obedience around distractions. He did a great job around all the distractions. We were even to practice semi-off leash. I let him drag the leash around while we trained. We just need to tighten up a few of his commands and he will be ready to work completely off leash. Still working on his potty training. Maximus had two accidents today. He made it outside, but went potty on the drive way instead of the grass.

Today Maximus and i went to the park to work on his obedience. We practiced semi off leash. He did pretty good. He was focused and obedient. He is still a little sloppy with his commands, but we will continue to practice and get him more on point. At home we started working on his potty bells, now that he is starting to get the idea of going outside to go to the bathroom. He caught on pretty quickly.

Today I had Maximus train with his buddy, Luna, around the neighborhood. They worked together as a team, following all the commands I gave them. Luna was showing Maximus how to be a well behaved puppy off leash. He did pretty well and listened to all his commands. At home we continued to work on his potty bells. Every time we went outside, Maximus had to ring the bell in order for me to open the door.

Today Maximus and I went stayed home to train. We practiced all his commands. We worked on his distance and duration. I used his friends as a distraction and let them play while he trained. It was a little hard for him at first because he wanted to join in on the fun. As we continued to train, he was able to ignore the dogs and focus on his commands. We started working on his door manners, teaching Maximus that he needs to wait at thresholds. He isn’t allowed to rush or bolt out the door just because it is open.

Today Maximus and I went to the park to work on his off leash obedience. We met with other off leash trainers and their dogs, so Maximus had dog distractions to work around. He did very well. He was focused and obedient, even with new dogs that he has never seen before. Maximus ignored them and stayed focused on me and my commands. We are still working on the potty bell. Every time we go outside I make him ring the bell, saying the word ‘potty’. He hasn’t grasped the concept to tell me, on his own, that he needs to go potty, but we will keep working at it.

Today Maximus and I went down to the park to work on his off leash obedience. We practiced all his commands. We worked on his distance and duration. At home we practiced more of his door manners and potty bells. It seems the white rice is helping his tummy. Maximus’s stool is looking better, almost back to normal.

Today Maximus and I stayed home to train. We practiced all his commands. We worked on his food and door manners. He spent the rest of the day, playing and socializing with his buddies before he leaves to Mike’s house for the remainder of his training. I gave him a bath, so he could be nice and clean. I am very proud of Maximus and the progress he has made over the two weeks! He can’t wait to go home and show you everything he has learned!
